Food Tips:
- When throwing a larger party, 12 or more people, stock your refrigerator
with four to six chickens or two turkeys. Running out of food is
never a good idea.
- Find out what drinks the guests prefer and cook the chicken and turkey
accordingly or have the guests bring their own beverages (BYOB). Following
are some different flavoring ideas:
- Beer, lemonade, Sprit, apple beer, orange soda, root beer and wine – some
beverages may need to be poured into an empty aluminum can.
- If serving alcohol, do so sparingly. As the host you are responsible for your guests and their safe return home.
- Include a bean dip with shredded chicken or turkey spread over the top.
- Finish the left over beverages by having ice cream floats – not recommended with certain beverages.
Entertainment Tips:
- A round of croquet is something everyone can enjoy while waiting for
the food to roast. Extreme croquet can be played if hills and obstacles are
involved. If a net is available, volleyball is also a great outdoor sport.
- Music is a great idea for any party and can be changed to fit any crowd.
- Once everyone is warmed up to each other, break out the karaoke machine.
- If a karaoke machine is not available have everyone write a song down
on a piece of paper to put in a hat, then send the hat around for guest to
draw the songs they have to sing.
- In addition to setting a romantic mood difficult for anyone to pass up,
a few bug-repellant torches will create a pest-free environment.
Theme nights are an excellent idea to create an exciting and unusual
party.
- For a luau theme, have everyone wear Hawaiian shirts, pass out candy
lays as a party favor and use pineapple juice to flavor the chicken or turkey.
- For an Old Mexican theme night, have a guest supply a piñata
to swing at after dinner, inject the birds with salsa juice and use
a sombrero for a Mexican hat dance.
